At the 2022 Almond Conference organized by the Almond Board of California, Mr. Dan On – Chairman of Dan On Foods Corporation – expressed an optimistic perspective on the growth potential of nuts in the Asian market, especially almonds. He noted that consumers in the region increasingly value almonds imported from the United States due to their strict production processes and high safety standards. This has given U.S. almonds a clear competitive edge in Asia, where consumers are becoming more concerned about product quality and origin.
Mr. Dan On also analyzed regional consumption habits—for instance, Chinese consumers prefer mixed nuts and roasted almonds, while Japanese consumers favor chocolate-coated almonds. This reflects the diversity in consumer demand and opens opportunities for businesses to customize their products and develop market-specific strategies. Such efforts are essential stepping stones for the almond industry to thrive in a promising future.
Behind the vision for the almond market in Asia was a long journey of building a business. Mr. Dan On shared that his success came from strong work ethics, a desire to give back to his homeland, and his personal leadership style. Along with focusing on business growth, he placed great importance on people. He was committed to improving the skills of Vietnamese employees and supported education by providing training and facilities for orphans and children in remote areas. Mr. Dan On also helped Afghan refugees, showing empathy for their experiences in Vietnam.
He described his facility as a “second home” for employees, equipped with amenities such as a swimming pool, gym, and salon. Notably, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he organized on-site quarantine at the factory to ensure workers' safety, providing each with around $1,000 per month to take home. It is this humanitarian mindset and methodical growth strategy that have helped him gain global recognition in the nut industry.
Looking forward, Dan On Foods Corporation continues to demonstrate its strategic vision and commitment to innovation through the East Pacific Foods Factory project, which broke ground in 2024 and is expected to be operational by 2025. This facility is designed to produce high-value processed food products, most notably a unique cookie made entirely from cashew flour using a proprietary recipe.
This major milestone not only strengthens strategic partnerships between Dan On Foods Corporation and both domestic and international business communities but also marks a significant step in the sustainable development journey of Dan On Foods Corporation, as it remains steadfast in its mission to become a pioneering enterprise in the supply and processing of nuts both in Vietnam and globally.
