Dan On Foods Corporation – University Of British Columbia: Advancing Together For A Sustainable Food Future

From August 5 to 8, 2025, Dan On Foods Corporation and the University of British Columbia (UBC) – one of the world’s leading universities in sustainability and food science – carried out a series of in-depth collaborative activities in Vietnam. This significant event marked a new milestone in both parties’ R&D strategy and international cooperation, combining Dan On Foods Corporation’s production expertise and market capabilities with UBC’s scientific foundation, advanced technologies, and global research network to create innovative, high-quality, and sustainable food solutions.

The working sessions were conducted on a professional scale, including strategic discussions, on-site inspections of production lines at the Innovation Center and Dan On Foods Corporation’s factories, as well as analyses of key global food industry trends: food security, climate change adaptation, community nutrition improvement, enhanced quality standards, and sustainable product development. UBC experts and Dan On Foods Corporation’s R&D team focused on unlocking the potential of processing technologies, preservation methods, and sensory value enhancement for core product lines such as cashews, pistachios, almonds, cookies from nut byproducts, nut butters, dried fruits, and plant-based milk.

In laboratory sessions, the two sides conducted advanced trials aimed at enhancing consumer experience: optimizing natural crunchiness, improving seasoning adhesion, balancing salt content, preserving natural colors, and ensuring food safety. These achievements not only add value to existing products but also pave the way for breakthrough product lines that meet the most stringent international standards.

On August 6, 2025, the UBC delegation also took part in “Master The Kitchen – Fundraising for Typhoon”, a CSR initiative organized by Dan On Foods Corporation to raise funds for communities affected by flooding. Among the judges was Mr. James Wang, Associate Director at the Faculty of Land and Food Systems – University of British Columbia, whose professional expertise in food brought insightful and refined perspectives to the competition.

On August 8, 2025, the program concluded with visits to Nong Lam University HCMC and the Ho Chi Minh City Oro-Maxillofacial Hospital, expanding a collaboration network linking academia, healthcare, and business. This network aims to develop high-impact training, research, and community projects, including nutritional support for cleft palate patients.

The Dan On Foods Corporation – UBC partnership is built on a strong foundation established in 2024, when Dan On Foods Corporation invested CAD 7 million (equivalent to VND 174 billion) in UBC’s food science project to establish the Dan On Food and Beverage Innovation Centre, covering 2,590.8 m². This center is designed to nurture young talent, foster innovation, and help shape the future of the global food industry. It is also among the first UBC facilities to be named after a Vietnamese entrepreneur – Mr. Dan On, founder of Dan-D Foods Ltd. in British Columbia, who has lived and built his career in Canada since 1979.

This collaboration stands as a testament to a mutually empowering relationship, united by a shared vision for a delicious, healthy, and sustainable food industry. With strong investment in R&D and a commitment to global partnerships, Dan On Foods Corporation continues to affirm its position as a Vietnamese enterprise capable of connecting, collaborating, and creating value on the world stage.
